Official Episode Description

Bracing themselves for the possibility of an apocalyptic war, Sam and Dean realize they have an enormous task of hunting down the hundreds of demons that escaped from the Devil's Gate. With only a year left to live, Dean decides to live life to the fullest and exhibits a carefree attitude that troubles Sam, who is trying to find a loophole in the deal. Bobby tells the brothers about a sighting in Nebraska that turns out to be seven demons that are the actual manifestations of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Summary

After a recap of season two, focusing on the events of the finale and the opening of the Hell's Gate, we visit Oak Park, Illinois. A man is taking out the trash when he notices some strange movements in the trashcan. He looks around and sees a huge black cloud heading towards him. The cloud is the demons that were released from Hell, and one of them enters his body, taking control. As the rest head off to other parts of the world.

One week later and Sam is sitting in the car researching Dr Faustus, looking for a way out of Dean's soul-selling deal. Dean is inside a motel room, clearly enjoying his evening with a pair of twins. Sam receives a phonecall from Bobby who has found something worth investigating. When Sam enters the motel room to get Dean, he gets an eyeful of his brother in a way he never wanted to!

Arriving at a house just outside Lincoln, Nebraska, they meet up with Bobby who has seen some demonic signs. There is no answer when they knock on the door, so the three of them break in to take a closer look. The smell is horrendous, and, they soon discover, is coming from three people who appear to have died while sitting in front of the TV. Suddenly, Dean sees movement outside the house. He sneaks out and ends up being almost knocked out by a guy with a rifle. Bobby comes outside and recognises the newcomers. Isaac and his wife Tamara are both hunters who are also tracking demonic activity in the area.

Sam gets to know Isaac and Tamara a bit better, while Dean uses his charm to get some information on the dead bodies. It seems that the people simply dehydrated and starved to death, despite the fully stocked kitchen only yards away. Sam suggests that they all work together to figure out what was behind the deaths, but Isaac refuses - he has no desire to work with the people who allowed the Devil's Gate to be opened. It's clear that he blames the Winchesters for releasing the demons into the world. Embarrassed, Tamara pulls him away and they leave.

That night, a mysterious girl is watching the house from the shadows.

A man, the same one we saw become possessed, walks into a store and speaks to a young woman who is shopping. Somehow, he makes her want a pair of shoes desperately - so much that she kills another woman who has bought the last pair. Sam, Dean and Bobby arrive at the scene to look for more information. Bobby, posing as an attorney for the DA's office, spoke to the suspect, who doesn't seem to be possessed. They're still not sure what happened, but when they check the security cameras, they watch footage of the man in the store earlier.

Walking down the street, Sam is being followed by the same girl who was watching the house the night before. When he turns around, she is gone.

Sitting in the car outside a bar, the boys follow the only lead they have in the search for the man, whose name they discover is Walter Rosen. He arrives and they watch as he goes into the bar, but when they see Tamara and Isaac follow him into the bar, they realise that they may need to move quicker than they thought.

Inside the bar, the demon heads to the bathroom, followed by Isaac. However, before Isaac can do anything, he is grabbed by another man. One by one, the occupants of the bar all show themselves to be demons. One of the demons suggests to Isaac that he has a drink of drain cleaner. Unable to stop himself, he drinks the toxic substance, which kills him as his wife watches. As the demons turn on Tamara, Bobby bursts through the wall in his car and the boys manage to rescue Tamara and also capture the original demon they were chasing.

Back at the house, with the demon caught under a Devil's Trap, they argue what to do next. Bobby has been researching and has discovered who the demons are. They are the 7 Deadly Sins, personified. Each of the sins was associated with a specific demon, and Bobby is scared. The have never faced anything like this before. They interrogate the demon they have, Envy, but get no useful answers. He recognises Dean and Sam, thanking them for releasing them all from Hell, arguing that each of the hunters is as bad as the demons for their wrath, lust and gluttony. He then warns them that the others are coming. Tamara begins the exorcism, sending Envy back to Hell.

With rocksalt around all the entrances, the four hunters wait. Suddenly, Isaac calls Tamara's name, begging for help. They know it's not really Isaac, but a demon inhabiting his body. He taunts her, causing her to dash outside to destroy it, but she inadvertently breaks the line of rocksalt, allowing the other demons to enter. Bobby faces Sloth, but catches him in the Devil's Trap and exorcises him. Dean faces Lust, a beautiful blond woman, but succeeds in drowning her in a bath filled with blessed holy water. Sam has to deal with three demons - Pride, Greed and Gluttony. Pride reveals to Sam that the demons have all heard about him, calling him the boy king, but says that he refuses to bow to him. The fight begins, but the girl who has been watching the Winchesters suddenly arrives, joining in. She has a knife that can kill demons, and, between her and Sam, they finish the three demons off. Before Sam can even ask her name, she vanishes again.

Afterwards, as Tamara burns the body of her husband, Dean and Sam burn the rest of the bodies - only two of the human hosts survived their exorcisms. Sam asks a troubling question of Dean and Bobby. If they let out the 7 Deadly Sins, what else did they let out?

Bobby and Tamara say goodbye to the boys as they head their separate ways.

Sam wants to try and find a way of breaking Dean's deal with the demon. Dean refuses, but Sam cant understand why, until Dean reveals the caveat of the deal - if he tries to break the deal in any way, Sam dies. Dean refuses to let that happen, and Sam accuses him of selfishness. Dean agrees that it was, but he doesn't care. He says he's tired and he's happy with the decision he made.
