The Fire

The night Mary died, Sam was just a baby, still in a crib, but it was the appearance of a strange dark figure looking over him that brought her screaming into his room. It was over his crib that Mary hung on the ceiling before she burst into flames. The dark figure was The Demon who has been looking for Sam "and children like him."

College

After a huge argument between him and John, Sam left home to go to college. He went to Stanford where he met Jessica Moore. They eventually moved in together and Sam was even considering asking her to marry him. He didn't, however, tell her anything about his family and the way they live their lives. He wanted nothing more than a 'normal' life and , with his LSAT scores as high as they were, was heading into Law School, until the day Dean turned up on his doorstep.

He agreed to go with Dean to hunt for John, but was relieved to get back to his apartment. His relief was short-lived as The Demon had struck again, this time killing Jessica in the same way his mother had died.

Road Trip

Not knowing where else to turn, Sam joined Dean on his hunts, telling his friends that he was going on a road trip with his brother - taking some time out after Jess' death. He always assumed that once they had found John and killed The Demon that he would head back to college and pick up his life where he left off.

The Powers

However, Sam has been experiencing some very strange things. Firstly, for days before Jess's death, he dreamed about it, exactly as it happened. His dreams have started coming true more often and recently he exhibited signs of telekenisis. He has discovered that he is one of many children like him that exhibit various psychic abilities and that The Demon is especially interested in them. His biggest fear is becoming what he has seen in other ones like him - that he will end up using his powers to kill.

The Final Battle

When Sam and some of the others with similar abilities were abducted by the Demon, only one of them was supposed to live. When Jake Talley finally realised this, he did the only thing he could and stabbed Sam, killing him. Dean, unable to cope with this, offered his soul to a Crossroads Demon in exchange for Sam's life. The deal was made and Dean was left with only one year to live. Sam is determined to find a way out of the deal, and will do anything he can to keep his brother alive.
